Learning is maximized when feedback is immediate. As parents or caregivers in a home, you are in a primary position to assist your child's learning. You also can provide an education that goes beyond academic outcomes for the benefit of the whole child. This includes character development or spiritual goals.

ADLC provides support for your family to:
  • maintain your family values
  • support differentiated learning opportunities
  • access supportive educational advice
  • access teacher expertise
  • follow optimal pacing
  • maximize loving educational experiences

Student Learning Plan

ADLC begins Personalized Learning by working in collaboration with the family to develop a customized student learning plan to meet the learning outcomes of Alberta Education Programs of Study. This plan includes resources to be used by the student, a timeline, and portfolio expectations. Parents wishing to enrol their children into this program must obtain permission from the local school jurisdiction.

Enrollment

Personalized Learning requires families to be very involved in their children's education and offers flexibility. Enrollment is limited and the last date for enrollment is September 22nd.

Weekly Contacts

Our teachers keep in weekly contact with families through phone or e-mail.  The purpose of weekly contacts is to:
  • build relationships
  • support active learning while optimizing teachable moments and differentiated instruction
  • allow teachers opportunities for effective assessments
Student learning comes in various forms, from cooking to field trips to looking at insects.

Portfolios

Students are able to display their work in their portfolios that are submitted several times during the year. Porfolio guidelines are provided by the teacher.  In their various forms, portfolios:
  • help teachers get to know the students
  • provide students with opportunities to demonstrate their learning and interests
  • provide samples of learning to teachers for evaluation

Funding

Families wishing to register their students in the Personalized Learning option should consult with their school board regarding funding and other criteria.

Supportive Teachers

Teachers are trained in various home education philosophies and curricula to help families plan and implement optimal educations routes for their children.

Flexibility

Multi-level teaching: Families may use the same learning experience for students at various levels.
Multi-subject teaching: Unit studies are supported by learning experiences use for multiple subjects.
Cross grade-level boundaries: Families may study topics in an order and pacing that is optimal for the student. This permits students to use a greater variety of materials and family events in their learning plans. This also may increase student confidence or efficiency.

Our goal at ADLC is to help families educate their children in ways that work best for them.  This includes working with various resources, educational methods, and philosophies.
