To follow through on an expectation of Alberta Education, we ask for your help in completing the newly added Aboriginal self-identification question in the student registration process in our Student Information System (SIS). Although the choice for parents/guardians to identify the student as Aboriginal is voluntary, it helps to determine the number of First Nations, Métis and Inuit students in provincial school authorities.
Why is this important?
Alberta Education uses this information for
- tracking achievement measures
- guiding the effort to closing the achievement gap between Aboriginal and all other Alberta students
- allocating additional funding
This information is collected in accordance to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act. For more information, see the Alberta Education website as well as their Information for School Authorities document.
