A Multicultural, Environmental, Leadership Program

Connections is an engaging multicultural, environmental, leadership program for high school students. Participation in this program gives you the opportunity to meet other students from across Alberta, learn about diversity, understand environmental stewardship, and develop leadership skills.

The Connections Program encourages you to “be the change you want to see in the world” (Gandhi) by

  • expanding your awareness of diversity issues and fostering cross-cultural understanding,
  • working with others to fight ethnocentrism, stereotyping, racism, prejudice and discrimination,
  • developing and using your personal leadership skills to affect positive change, and
  • connecting with nature and recognizing diverse issues in the environment.

The Connections Program is comprised of three main components: online pre-trip activities, an on-site program, and post-trip activities in schools and/or communities.

On-site Component

You’ll spend four days at Kamp Kiwanis, near Calgary, engaging in a wide variety of activities designed to develop teamwork and leadership skills. As you learn about diversity, you’ll be encouraged to examine your own biases and increase your understanding of other cultures. The days are filled with opportunities to share your ideas with others, and to reflect on your learning and experiences.
